Event Date: 19 September 2025, Place: University of Copenhagen
Deadline: 23:59, 1 May 2025

We hereby invite applications from PhD students to participate in a graduate seminar in early modern Caribbean history c. 1600-1850. While all applications will be considered, we are particularly keen to see applications from students researching inter-island connections, migration, and environmental challenges during this period.

This graduate seminar is a concrete opportunity for early career researchers in the advanced stages of their doctoral dissertation work to share their research and receive feedback from other graduate students and more experienced scholars within the field.

The seminar will be a one-day event accommodating six graduate students and four senior scholars. Each graduate student will contribute a substantial written piece of 50-60 pages that will lay the foundation for the seminar and provide a platform for in-depth discussions among the participants.

The chosen candidates will be asked to circulate their contributions two weeks in advance of the seminar to give the other participants enough time to read each contribution. During the seminar, each graduate student will provide a short presentation of the submitted piece and situate it within their broader doctoral research. The senior scholars will participate as readers.

How to apply:
Send a one-page CV, an abstract, and an extended summary (2-3 pages) of the research project to Rasmus Christensen before the application deadline: 23:59, 1 May 2025.

Successful applicants will be notified by 15 May 2025.

The seminar is hosted by the IN THE SAME SEA project, University of Copenhagen, and has received funding from HUM:Global and the Saxo Institute, University of Copenhagen.
