IN THE SAME SEA Team Members go to Colombia

Gunvor Simonsen, Felicia Fricke, and Heather Freund travelled to Santa Marta, Colombia, at the end of May to present papers at the 55th annual meeting of the Association of Caribbean Historians (ACH), hosted by the Universidad del Magdalena. Papers and panels covered a variety of empires, time frames, and topics, including migration, abolition, transnationalism, heritage, and archives. Papers encompassed the greater Caribbean through spaces like Panama and Venezuela and the diaspora of Caribbean peoples to places like New York and Massachusetts. You can find more information about our team's presentations on the Dissemination page, and the full conference programme can be found here.

The collegial atmosphere made for thoughtful and engaging discussions. It was also great to see past guests of ITSS - Joy Lewis, Sharika Crawford, and Dexnell Peters. The conference concluded with a field trip to the Colombian countryside and the home of Nobel Prize winning novelist Gabriel García Márquez. We learned a lot and we look forward to further editions of the ACH!
